Cryptography is the technique of writing in secret code; there are two type of cryptography symmetric and asymmetric. Symmetric-key cryptography indicate to encryption techniques in which mutually both the sender and receiver share the same key to encrypt and decrypt a message, and Asymmetric cryptosystem use one key (the public key) to encrypt a message and a different key (the private key) to decrypt the encrypted message. Asymmetric cryptosystems are as well known as public key crypto systems.

Cryptography is core techniques which are being used in computer and network security for such things as access control and information confidentiality and are not easy to break. Typically the Encryption is the transformation of data or message into a form that is as close to impossible as possible to read without the appropriate knowledge. Its intention is to ensure privacy by keeping information hidden from anyone or unauthorized person, even those who have access to the encrypted data. Decryption is the reverse of encryption; it is the transformation of encrypted data back into an intelligible form.

Also Endorsement & Verification is key element of our lives as privacy that is the reason Authentication is essential in our day to day life with any kind of transactions- when we sign our name to some document, in case doing online transaction our decisions and agreements are communicated electronically, we need to have electronic techniques for providing authentication. In such case a digital signature is recommended which is reminiscent of an ordinary signature with characteristic that it is easy for a user to produce and same time making it difficult for anyone else to forge.

This article provides you brief idea about setting up vnc server on Linux.I had setup vnc server on fedora core 3. however you can apply same steps with other distro.

Step 1 : Enable vnc services on host MyServer.
?#setup
???????? go to system services
???????? check out that vnc and vncserver are enabled.
???????? if not enable it using space bar.
???????? quit from setup.

?# service vncserver start

Step II : Start the VNC server.
# vncserver
…
vncserver started on MyServer:1.
Note : Only one instance of server is created.

#vncpasswd
password:*****
retype password:****
Note : This will set vnc password for accessing vnc server.

Step III : Testing
From client run vncviewer (don’t run remote desktop connection from winxp or win2003, they are using different protocol)

In server enter : MyServer:1

enter password:

and you will see the screen with one terminal open.

Thats because by default vnc starts twm desktop.

For getting your gnome desktop

Go to /root/.vnc/

vi xstartup

change the 4th and 5th lines to look like this

unset session manager

exec /etc/x11/…/initrc

This month, McAfee have come out with an interesting report on the Online Security Threats. It is an appealing read for anybody interested in the security phase.There seems to be nothing remarkably different from popular understanding, but there are some interesting facts and figures worth reading. A few highlights, which caught my attention, are following.

Global Recession in spamming Trends: The overall spamming activity has drastically reduced in last two quarters. It looks like global recession has exaggerated the spamming industry as well. For the first time in last several quarters, spam as a percentage of total emails sent, has come down below 90%.

But actually, it is the result of the shut down of one of the major spamming network with the name McColo in last November. Let’s see how things steps forward in remaining quarters of 2009.

There is a great jump in the activities of Rogue applications. This seems to be the new area, which is getting good growth.

March saw record time growth for the launching of new rogue applications and witnessed more than double number of these apps as contrast to any single month in last many years.

Firefox 3.5 beta 4 has excellent feature that lets your websites know where you are in order to bring you more relevant information which let you save your time while searching. This  implementation can be accessed via JavaScript, when it detects a geolocation request, an information bar is prompted so the user can accept or deny. For example, if you’re looking for “gift store” in your area, a simple search for “gift” will bring you the answers you need…no further information or extra typing required.

Some modern websites offer services which are quite convenient to use if they know your location (such as online mapping, or searching for specific things in your area). When you visit one of these sites, Firefox will ask you if you want it to provide the site with your current location.

If you wish to allow Geolocation, Firefox first check for relevant location markers for instance the location data provided by a GPS device built into or attached to your computer or browsing device, the signal strength of nearby wifi system and/or cell phone towers.
